Deck Repair
Grand Rapids, MI

As deck builders, we know that the work does not stop at the installation phase. Decks are, sadly, not built to last forever. At some point in time, your deck is going to need to be repaired, and that is unavoidable.

We also know that not everyone is as professional as we are. If you have a cowboy outfit come in and do some shoddy work, or if your deck has been damaged by hail or termite infestation, then we can help with all your deck repairs.

If you have a deck that could use some work, we are the deck company to call. Not only that, but we also do deck remodeling and deck replacement. Your deck does not need to be damaged for you to want to do something about it.

If you have any problems whatsoever, you can trust us with your deck repair. With years of experience in deck building and installation, we know what can go wrong, how to spot those problems, and how to fix them. So, call us now before your small problems turn into big problems.

Why Is Deck Repair Important

When your deck starts to wear, or the planks become splintered, it may be tempting to put it out of your mind. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? But, catching these small problems before they become big problems will save you a lot of time and money.

Wear could be innocuous, but it could also be a sign that there is structural damage. You could have termites, and not know until it is too late. Some chipped pain could be letting in moisture.

If you don’t know the extent of the damage, give us a call and we can help to guide you.

5 Signs You Need To Repair Your Deck

There are some major signs of a broken deck, such as movement and broken planks, but some damage is not as noticeable. Here are some things to look for when you are inspecting your deck.

Water Damage

A broken plank can be replaced easily, and faded paint can be remedied, but support posts and beams are another matter.

When you are checking your deck, always take a look at the structure below, if you can. Moisture from the ground can easily work its way into the supports, and you may be able to see that when you are inspecting the deck. Touch the wood to see if it feels soft, and give us a call if you notice any movement when you are on your deck.

Popped Nails

Over time, nails can start to rise up, and that can become a tripping hazard or, worse, a stabbing hazard if you are out in bare feet. Going around with a hammer and pounding them back in could remedy the problem, but it could be a sign of a shifting deck.

If you notice that the nails keep popping up, then your deck could be shifting, and it could be a sign of structural damage. Call the deck repair professionals and we will come and take a look.

Termite Damage

Often, you don’t see termite damage until it is too late. They mostly keep to themselves and stay hidden within the wood, but there are indicators that you can pay attention to.

If there is damaged wood close to your deck, then termites may be in your deck too. If you see little grey and black dots on your deck, it could be fecal matter. Holes in the wood could be a sign of termites burrowing, and you might even see the termites themselves. Knocking on the wood might also give a hollow sound.

If you do have termites, take action before it is too late.

Slippery Deck

Slippery decking can be a hazard for everyone, but especially for those who are infirm or not stable on their feet. You may not notice that your deck is slippery until the surface has worn, or until it rains for the first time.

If you notice that the deck is slippery, don’t use it until we come and take a look. This is common with pool decks, but we do pool deck repair too.

Cracks & Splinters

Over time, the surface of your deck is going to wear, and moisture is going to get into the wood (if your deck is made from wood). The wood can start to crack and splinter, and this can prove hazardous if you are using your deck in bare feet.

The best time to treat this is when you first notice it. If you catch it early, you can sand down the deck and resurface it. If you don’t catch it in time, replacing the boards is also easy.
